Development of Sectoral Statistics: Compilation of Statistical Metadata

October 15, 2024 | Other Activities

This activity was carried out with the aim of helping to facilitate management, search, avoid duplication, present, and evaluate existing data and information.

Head of Pasangkayu BPS Chitra Dewi Said in her speech explained the importance of statistical data which is a very abundant asset. She explained that data is very valuable, but data can also be useless if it cannot be managed properly. “Imagine if we have a library containing millions of books, but we don't have a catalog or index. Of course it will be very difficult to find the book we are looking for. The same goes for statistical data. Statistical metadata is like a catalog for our statistical data. With metadata, we can easily find, understand, and utilize the statistical data we need. Let's make metadata the key to unlocking the potential of statistical data in our region,” said Chitra.

In addition, Chitra also mentioned metadata, which is the key to effective data management. “Metadata is data about data. Simply put, metadata provides additional information about data, such as who created the data, when the data was created, the format of the data, and what is contained in the data.”
After that, the activity continued with the delivery of Statistical Metadata material by Junior Expert Computer Officer Deka Nur Amala. After that, it ended with a discussion with OPD participants.
